Announced in a press release, Representative Buddy Carter secured nearly $5 million in USDA funding to revamp the town's wastewater system, which will encompass a substantial grant and loan. The initiative aims to construct critical facilities, including a replacement water pollution control plant, in hopes of bolstering essential local infrastructure.

"I’m pleased that USDA understands the importance of ensuring that rural communities have access to a reliable wastewater collection and treatment system. Nahunta deserves this necessary funding to keep its residents healthy and its operations running smoothly. As a former mayor, I know how important it is that we continue to advocate for local projects like this on the federal level so that our communities can thrive," said Representative Buddy Carter as stated in his office's press release.

In another statement from Representative Carter's office, it was disclosed that the USDA funding consists of a $2.812 million grant and $2.126 million loan.

The Water & Waste Disposal Loan & Grant Program offers funding to eligible entities in rural areas for developing clean water systems, sewage disposal, waste management, and storm drainage according to the USDA. The program assists those unable to access commercial credit and can be used for various infrastructure aspects like water sourcing, sewer systems, waste disposal, and stormwater management. It provides long-term, low-interest loans or grants if necessary for up to 40 years. Eligible uses cover essential project components such as legal fees, equipment purchasing and start-up operations. Loan terms and rates are made aligning with the project's lifespan and area's income level.

According to C-Span information about Buddy Carter indicates him as being a member of the Republican Party who has been representing Georgia's 1st congressional district since 2015. This district is centered in Savannah covering a significant portion of the state's southern coastal region. Prior to his role in Congress, Carter served as both a Georgia state representative and state senator.
