FOIA Request to Effingham County Election Department Regarding Ballot Counting Methods on October 29, 2024. The Savannah Standard, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, has submitted a request under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq.
In the interest of transparency and public accountability, we have requested records detailing the methods used by the department to count votes in the upcoming election. If votes are being counted manually, we have also asked for an estimated number of people who will be working on election night.
As a media organization, we believe it is our duty to hold public institutions accountable and provide transparency to the public. Access to such records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. We have requested these records preferably in electronic format and believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
We await response from the Effingham County Election Department and will continue our efforts in providing comprehensive coverage of local governmental affairs.
